Birdbaths

The use of water in the garden to nurture nature is seen most obviously in the bird bath. Early antique and vintage bird baths were made of a shallow bowl and a pedestal, and cast from composition stone and concrete, or carved from marble, granite, limestone or sandstone. Lead and cast iron were used as well, and the elevated bowl on a pedestal protected the bathing birds from predators and gave a better view of their antics in the shallow bath.
