A Zinc Autumn

Please note that our showroom is currently closed until further notice.

This rare life size zinc statue of Autumn is attributed to the sculptor Alexander Tondeur (1829-1905).  Holding a basket of fruit upon her head with her left hand and tightly grasping grain with her right. She is barefoot, dressed in long classical robes, and her hair up in the back with a few long dangling tresses.

Beautiful patina and in very good condition.  Rare piece - not many zinc statues remain in such good condition from 19th century America.

The only other known copy is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (No. 68.140.1)
