Impressive Large Antique Istrian Stone Cistern with a demi-lune front and straight back allowing for the cistern to rest flat against a wall and collect rain water. The curved front is decorated with spiraling vine-work along the top and deep foliate carvings around a pair of mythical griffins on either side of a vase.
The back of the planter has a carving of an armorial shield with a standing lion. Very old and primitive carvings. Some restoration to the lower area of the planter.
In addition to being used as a planter, this antique vessel could also be used as a fountain basin. Lovely patina with moss.
