The Van Nost cousins were the most important lead ornament makers of the early 18th century. John van Nost, the elder, become established in the 1680s and his best known work is at Melbourne Hall in Derbyshire and at Hampton Court. The greyhound here, looking up, in English lead is a copy of one cast in c. 1718. English lead garden dog statue sculpture.
