Large Antique Lead Fountain

Please note that our showroom is currently closed until further notice.

Substantial English Lead Fountain with 4 Seasons, early 20th C. This monumental beautifully aged and weathered deep round cistern fountain has well executed symbols of the 1707 Act of Union between Scotland and England, which formed Great Britain under Queen Anne, the last Stuart sovereign. The strap work is indicative of the late 17th - early 18th century decoration.

The 4 putti figures in the center of the fountain depict the 4 Seasons and are beautifully rendered, with fine attention to detail, seen in their clothing, hair and lyrical composition. They surround a sculpture of cattails with a lead centerpiece fountain spout.

The last picture shows a similar fountain basin featured in a garden in England.

The soft palette of the aged lead distinguishes this important fountain. The depth of the fountain allows water to create wonderful resonant sound. When exposed to weather, lead will develop a beautiful grey patina that will last generations.

Imported from England.
