Appeldoorn Urn – Lead

We believe the originals that these English lead urns were copied from were cast in Circa 1700. They belong to a charitable trust and form part of a house     and garden open to the public. There is an almost identical pair at Het Loo, William of Orange's palace near Appeldoorn in Holland. The scenes relate to the events of 1688, the Glorious Revolution, when the Roman catholic King James ll was forced to flee England. His place was taken by the Protestant Prince William of Orange and his wife, Mary Stuart.
