Antique Iron Building Anchor

19th American cast iron white building star.

Called star anchors, they were common in the 19th century. These hefty iron architectural antiques were more than decorations, they were end pieces of wrought-iron bars that ran through building walls and were bolted to the exterior masonry walls. The iron bars literally tied the walls to the interior and prevented the walls from buckling. To keep the tie rods from being pulled through the brick walls, they were connected to star anchors or rosette anchors on the outside.
