Antique Irish Staddle Stone

Antique carved 19th Century Granite staddle stone on tall circular base from Ireland. Nicely weathered.

Staddle stones were agricultural building supports that held up granaries, haystacks, and beehives to protect them from small animals and vermin and to allow air circulation underneath. Usually made of granite or sandstone they were carved from whatever stone was available.
