Antique carved alabaster bust of Cupid reviving Psyche signed A. Cipriani. Beautiful features with nice detail. Old repair to a wing.

In Roman mythology, Psyche was put into a deep sleep by Proserpina. Cupid then wakes Psyche with a prick of his arrow. Having been recently awakened, Psyche reaches up towards her lover, Cupid as he gently holds her.
Adolfo Cipriani (1880-1930) was an important Italian sculptor, working mostly in marble and alabaster for the luxury market of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. He specialized in busts such as the one shown above.
